Physical Education 10, 20, 30

PE 10 is designed to move students through a series of healthy lifestyle activities. The emphasis will be on daily participation, physical activity and wellness. PE 10 is a graduation requirement. In PE 20 and PE 30, students will be introduced to lifetime skill activities. Participants will build leadership experience and continue to explore the dimensions of Physical Education with a continued focus on the topics covered in PE 10. The emphasis will be on daily participation, physical activity and wellness activities. Previous PE field trips have included golf, scuba, rock climbing, bowling and archery.

Physical Education 10, 20, 30 + CALM 20

These courses allow students to complete the PE curriculum, focussing on a series of wellness and fitness activities, while concurrently fulfilling the CALM 20 requirements. Students will work toward developing positive skills in interpersonal relationships and leadership.

 

Cross Fit

CrossFit® 10, 20, 30

Please be aware that CrossFit, Personal Fitness, Medical Studies and Sports Medicine will have overlapping course work.

Students selecting this course will complete five or more CTS modules from the Recreation Leadership, Human and Social Services, and Health Care Services strands. Students will learn and execute workouts and fitness testing made up of safe, functional movements with a teacher and CrossFit® Level 2 Trainer.

Yoga

Physical Education 10, 20, 30 + Yoga

In these courses, students will learn yoga postures, strength, flexibility, fitness and relaxation techniques for three credits. Students will also learn strategies which support a healthy and active lifestyle for three credits in either Physical Education 10, 20 or 30.

Personal Fitness

Please be aware that CrossFit, Personal Fitness, Medical Studies and Sports Medicine will have overlapping course work.

Personal Fitness 10, 20, 30

Students selecting this course will complete five or more CTS modules from the Recreation Leadership, Human and Social Services, and Health Care Services strands. Classes will focus on broad, general and inclusive fitness. Students will also delve into other wellness topics, such as nutrition, anatomy, physiology, flexibility and mobility.

Sports Medicine

Please be aware that CrossFit, Personal Fitness, Medical Studies and Sports Medicine will have overlapping course work.

These courses are offered to students who are interested in the many aspects of Sports Medicine and Recreational Leadership. Students considering careers, or personal interests, in sports medicine, athletic therapies, fitness training, sport nutrition, physiotherapy, coaching and physical education should take this course. Through completion of the three levels of this program, students may receive certification in:

  • Fitness Instruction Leadership
  • National Coaching Certification Program
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Athletic Training
  • Kinesiology
  • Prevention and Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries

Medical Studies

Nurse, paramedic, doctor, respiratory technician, forensics, health care aide, LPN, laboratory technician…if you are interested in a career in the area of health care, these are the courses for you! These courses offer you the opportunity to gain specialized skills and knowledge that will provide an excellent head start for your future in the medical world. Certification in standard First Aid/CPR/AED will be available for students at a reduced rate.
